FSSAI has restricted entities from registering websites with its abbreviation, after it allegedly found that some portals were operating with FSSAI in the domain name, with the suffix or affix registration or licence, and in some cases, the logo of the country’s apex food regulator.

FSSAI is a statutory body constituted under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India Act, 2006. It has not authorised any entity to register its website with the domain name comprising the word FSSAI or to use its name and logo, or represent the regulator as such.

In the event anyone intends to avail the services of any such online website for registration/licence as a food business operator (FBO), it is advisable that background check of such third party be carried out with regard to authenticity or reliability of its services.

FSSAI shall not be responsible for any loss or damage suffered by the FBO on account of deficiency of services by such party.

The public is informed that applications for FSSAI licence or registration by the food business operators (FBOs) can only be made at FSSAI’s online food licencing and registration portal by using the link to the same.

Pawan Kumar Agarwal, chief executive officer, FSSAI, appealed to the public to exercise care and caution while applying for licences/registration as FBOs. Only the regulator’s licencing portal should be used for registration/licence application.

In case of need for any help, applicants may approach FSSAI’s regional offices or a jurisdictional designated officer or food safety officer for guidance, details of which are available on the regulator’s portal.

FSSAI has also launched a Food Safety Mitra Scheme, wherein Digital Mitras are being trained to assist FBOs for online filings related to licencing and registration, at very nominal charges. Details are available on FSSAI’s portal, and the public is encouraged to use the services of Food Safety Mitras.
