Coca-Cola Canada is set to introduce Interac Flash Contactless Debit technology on vending machines at the Calgary Stampede, an annual rodeo, exhibition and festival, on 5 July 2013.
Interac Flash is an enhancement of Interac Debit developed by Canada-based Interac Association.
The contactless debit technology will be initially rolled out on 16 vending machines, with plans to deploy on approximately 4,000 Coca-Cola vending machines across Canada by the end of July.
This technology enables customers to pay for their Coca-Cola beverage by holding their Interac Flash-enabled debit cards in front of a contactless point-of-sale reader.
Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada president John Guarino said: "This first-of-its-kind initiative offers consumers the flexibility to pay the way they want for the beverages they love."
Interac Association president and CEO Mark O'Connell said: "As a leader in the beverage marketplace, Coca-Cola understands the value that Interac Flash offers, particularly to its consumers wanting to pay quickly and securely at its vending machines with funds from their bank accounts."
