salmomSkuna Bay Salmon on Monday announced it will neutralize carbon emissions from all freight shipments with carbon offset purchased through Terra Pass.

Terra Pass is a San Francisco-based company that offers multiple carbon offsetting programs including 22 carbon neutralizing project with carbon credits that cannot be resold and are verified under the Climate Action Reserve and Verified Carbon Standard.

“It’s the biggest issue we face today, not just in society but in the seafood business, climate change and global warming,” said Dave Mergle, Skuna Bay marketing director.

Mergle said the cost of the project will be in the 5-figures, but that Skuna Bay will not pass that cost on to the marketplace.

“We challenge the rest of the industry to follow our lead,” said Mergle. “If we all agree to neutralize our shipping it will make a pretty big different.”
