The facility aims to meet increased demand of the Indian and international packaging markets and was built with an investment of Rs34 crore (€6.1m).

From a turnover of Rs2.5 crores (€450,000) in 2000, Bosch Packaging Technology, a division of Bosch, has grown with a 33.6% CAGR and registered sales of Rs60.5 crores (€10.9m) last year.

The plant will aim to increase localization of packaging machine production and make German technology affordable and available to the Indian market.

Bosch said it has sold more than 1200 packaging machines to the food, confectionery and pharmaceutical industries in India and international markets.

Bosch Packaging Technology India began its operations in Verna from a leased location in 2007.

High potential market

Managing director of Bosch and president of Bosch Group in India, V K Viswanathan, said:
 "Bosch sees India and the South Asia region as a high potential market for Packaging Technology particularly in the pharmaceuticals and foods segments.

“This state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Goa will meet the growing needs of the region through appropriate products and packaging solutions.

“The new facility will also generate good growth and employment opportunities for the people of Goa
.”

The firm designs, develops, manufactures and markets form, fill and seal machines for flexible bag packaging, flow wrapping machines for confectionery and food applications.

Bosch Packaging Technology India employs 130 associates, which is expected to rise with the new facility to about 160 within the next three years.

Leadership position

President of Bosch Packaging Technology, Germany, Friedbert Klefenz, said the facility will bring global offerings to India.

“It will also contribute greatly in pursuing our future plans and consolidating our leadership position in the Indian and international markets.

“Hence, this is not just a milestone for the Packaging Technology division of Bosch in India, but a global one, too
.”
