Carrot prices have dropped considerably throughout the summer, "Supply is now increasing and when this happens, prices drop automatically. At the beginning of the summer we were still at 45 cents. The price is now stable, around 25-30 cents for washed and sorted carrots," says Rick de Boer from De Boer Westwoud, "I do not know whether the prices will drop further. We will only know that when we get the next phone call."

"Right now sales are mainly through the Dutch market. There is some movement, but it is not really wild. I expect our export markets to come onto the market quite quickly, but then the price will probably drop even further. If carrot prices hit 20 cents it will be even more beneficial for them to buy Dutch," says Rick. "The quality is good, everything is being harvested, washed and packed, but you do not know what the drought will continue to do to the carrots. There are larger yields coming from the harvests now."

According to Rick, beetroot sales are still very quiet, "Actually it has been quiet the last few years for the early beets. Maybe there are just too many of them. If everyone stopped growing them, we might be busy again next year."
