Mushroom sales were rough last week, "Due to the warmth, demand fell and the delay in Calais transport to England made things even more difficult. This week the market is back in balance and we are getting normal prices again," says Maurice Koppen from Oakfield Champignons in Stramproy, The Netherlands.

In addition to the reduction in supply of white mushrooms last week, the chestnut mushroom supply also saw a dip, "The chestnut mushrooms are now going for 6 Euro (per 3 kg). There was no demand for white mushrooms last week and therefore no specific price. This week prices are heading towards 1.40 Euro," says Maurice.

"In May and June the demand for mushrooms was good, but in recent years demand in the summer has been declining more than in the past. These are the worst months for mushrooms."

"I am very curious as to how the upcoming winter will go. Quite a few growers have gone bankrupt and closed, and that makes a difference in terms of supply. This will cause supply and demand to form a different relationship here," says Maurice.
