Brazil's chicken exports totaled 316,900 tons in February, up 2.2% from the same period last year, as Chinese chicken purchases increased, according to data released by ABPA on Monday (March 11).

According to ABPA statistics, Brazil's total chicken export trade in February reached 526 million dollars, an increase of 6.3% compared with the same period last year, according to Brazil's "g1 globo" and "comexdobrasil" reports on March 11. ABPA said: "Among of Brazil's chicken export destinations in February, China's procurement volume is the most prominent, a leading position."

In February, China imported more chicken from Brazil than Saudi Arabia, which has always been the leading country, reaching 388,800 tons, up 11% year-on-year. Saudi Arabia closed international trade with Brazilian five meat factories at the end of January, but its cumulative imports of Brazilian chicken in the first two months of this year remained the highest.

According to ABPA statistics, Brazilian chicken exports reached 598.7 million tons in the first two months of this year, down 6.6% year on year. Although China's chicken imports from Brazil increased by 5% in the first two months, Brazilian chicken exports fell by 3.6% to $979.1 million compared with the same period last year.

In terms of market share, China's imports of chicken from Brazil accounted for 12.4% of Brazil's total exports in the first two months of this year, accounting for about 72.5 million tons, second only to Saudi Arabia's imports of 74.7 million tons (12.8%). Japan ranks third in Brazilian chicken exports, accounting for 10%.

In addition, recent statistics from SECEX of Brazil's Ministry of Economy show that China imported 8.32 billion dollars of goods from Brazil in January and February this year, accounting for 23.8% of Brazil's total exports, ranking first.

The United States ranked second for Brazil export market share (12.8%) equivalent to only about half of China, imported  goods from Brazil about $4.47 billion before two months.

Affected by the economic crisis, Argentina's imports from Brazil dropped sharply in the first two months of this year ($1.54 billion), and its market share fell to 4.42%, ranking third.
