Uttarakhand food dept serves 30 days notice to Baba Ramdev over samples

Rajendra Singh Rawat, designated officer, Haridwar, Uttarakhand food department, informed FnB News, “Samples of salt, spices, jam and mustard oil were collected from Ramdev's Divya Yog Ashram in Haridwar and were found to be of substandard quality. Also, some of the products were found to have been manufactured elsewhere but were being marketed under the ashram's brand.”

He added, “We collected the samples by conducting surprise raids at Baba Ramdev's Ashram recently. The samples have been sent for testing in central lab. We gave 30 days limit to Baba Ramdev for clarifying that none of his products are of substandard quality. But till date we have not got any reply from him.”

“We have sent the case to our adjudicating officer Rakesh Sharma. We are waiting for him to approach us and in case, did not approach us, we will approach the court. If the samples are tested positive his trust would be booked under relevant sections of the law and can be fined Rs 10-15 lakh,” explained Rawat.

Spokesperson, communication cell, Baba Ramdev Divya Yog Ashram, Haridwar, said, “The Ashram was raided not for substandard quality but for labelling. Our legal team will reply to the notice served by Uttarakhand food department.”
