Peru's fresh chili and pepper (capsicum) exports will amount to US$286 million in 2016, a 20% increase from the previous year.
"[...] receiving phytosanitary access to the United States in September 2015 opened up a very important window for trade […]," the officer said.
Afterwards, national agro-exporters undertook efforts for the first shipment to come true at the end of 2016.
Capsicum and chili exports to the US are expected to total US$27 million in the first three years, and reach US$150 million in the fifth year, the Adex Chairman projected.
Shipments totaled US$271 million in 2015, a 19% increase.
United States, Spain and Mexico have become "consolidated markets" for capsicums.
Puerto Rico, Chile, Canada, France, the Netherlands and United Kingdom are targets currently explored by agro-exporters.
