Tree of Life Canada (TOLC), a specialty food distributor, has acquired Northbud Distributors to enhance its retail services through increased frozen and refrigerated capabilities and its food service products.

Over the next 12 months, the company will merge Northbud Distributors into the TOLC business, during which period Northbud will continue with its trade programs and terms.

Northbud sales and marketing vice president Peter Clarke said, "This is an opportunity for our vendor partners to reach more doors across Canada and to increase and strengthen our sales support throughout the country."

The enhanced capabilities of TOL are expected to complement TOLC's current product portfolio that includes Premium Taste, Ethnic, Natural, Perishable and Food Service brands.

Tree of Life Canada president Jamie Moody noted, "Tree of Life's strategy is to offer class leading category expertise in our specialty categories. The addition of the Northbud portfolio gives us greater presence in the perimeter of the store categories that continue to experience high growth."

Primarily focused on the distribution of refrigerated and frozen value-added meat, poultry and deli products and other grocery products, Northbud products include Kraft Foods, Buddig, Hillshire Brands, and Advance Pierre Foods.
