Sunland, a US-based food company linked to Salmonella-contaminated peanut butter, has expanded the recall to include raw and roasted peanuts and has shut down its nut butter and peanut processing plant in New Mexico, US.

With the expansion of the recall, the company is recalling all of its products made since 2010.

The recall was initiated after food safety inspectors identified that Sunland products were found to be contaminated with the same strain that caused a multi-state outbreak in September.

Till date, 35 people in 19 states have been infected with salmonella, in an outbreak linked to peanut butter made by Sunland, which was sold under a variety of names, including Trader Joe's brand Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter with Sea Salt.

Consumption of food contaminated with salmonella may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. Salmonellosis may lead to serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
