The National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe program will help educate Illinois foodservice operators about changes to the state’s food safety regulations.

The Washington, D.C.-based NRA and the Illinois Restaurant Association are joining in the effort to help operators comply with the recently passed Illinois Food Handling Regulation Enforcement Act.

“The legislative landscape of food safety regulation is constantly evolving,” Cathy McCullough, vice president of sales and product marketing for the National Restaurant Association, said in the release. “As thousands of restaurant and foodservice managers across Illinois begin to navigate changes to the Food Handling Regulation Enforcement Act, our comprehensive ServSafe food safety certification program will provide the education and training needed to comply with the law.”

With the state’s new food safety law, its department of health no longer offers the Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification Exam. As of July 2014, foodservice sanitation manager certifications reqiure an 8-hour training course, according to the release.

The ServSafe program is recognized by the state of Illinois, and will provide online and on-site training and exams for foodservice managers.

The ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination has certified more than 5 million foodservice professionals and is accredited by the American National Standards Institute-Conference for Food Protection, according to the release.
