The Restaurant Group, a British chain of restaurants and public houses, plans to expand its retail footprint by opening new outlets across the country.

The group, whose chains include Frankie & Benny's and Chiquito, is seeking to accelerate the pace of store openings in 2014.

For 45 weeks, the chain has witnessed 9.1% rise in sales compared to year ago while like-for-like sales surged 3.5% ahead, in line with expectations.

Restaurant Group noted that the figures represented an expected slowdown from 5%, underlying sales growth recorded in the first half of the year.

In 2013, the group said it would open up to 35 new restaurants. Till date, it has opened 21 new outlets.

Across the group, the company expects to open a total of between 33 and 35 new restaurants in 2013.

Founded in 1987, The Restaurant Group presently operates over 420 pubs and restaurants predominantly in airports, leisure and retail outlets.
