We are a nation of snackers. We are also a nation with a high rate of obesity. Unhealthy snack choices can lead to unhealthy weight, so finding a snack that satisfies the appetite without bringing on unwanted lbs. is important.

For children, that balanced snack is a combination of vegetables and cheese, according to researchers from Cornell University.

For the study, 201 studens in grades three through six were assigned one of four snacking conditions: potato chips only; cheese-only; vegetables only; and both cheese and vegetables.

While the students snacked, they watched 45-minute television programs. Satiety was measured before they ate, while they ate and 20 minutes after they finished.

The results showed that children in the cheese/vegetable combo group consumed 72% fewer calories than the potato chip group, and required fewer calories to achieve satiety, particularly for overweight or obese children, and those from low-involvement families.
