France has banned the consumption of bisphenol A in baby food packaging and all food containers as it may cause toxic effects.

The chemical, which is known as BPAb is used as a protective lining in food and beverage cans as well as used in polycarbonate type of hard plastic bottles.

In testing, toxic affects of BPA were found in animals. The chemical affected the brain and nervous system. The exposure to BPA may also cause coronary heart diseases and reproductive disorders, stated some studies.

According to a law, the Senate has imposed a ban on the manufacture, import, export and commercialisation of all forms of food packaging that consumed bisphenol A.
