The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced that ingredients used in the burgers manufactured by Cardinal Meat Specialists Limited are not tainted with E. coli O157:H7.

The agency conducted investigation into ingredients used in burgers. The investigation was done based on three lines of inquiry, such as spices, domestic beef ingredients and international beef ingredients.

CFIA also completed the assessment of production, inspection and testing records, review of plant safety procedures along with the additional testing on burger ingredients.

The CFIA has now confirmed that all available domestic beef ingredient products have tested negative for E. coli O157:H7.

No illnesses have been reported associated with the recall. Earlier, there were reports of a link between Butcher's Choice burgers, produced by the firm and a small number of illnesses in Ontario and Alberta. As a result the burgers were recalled from the marketplace between 12 and 15 December.
