Legal Sea Foods, the Boston-based chain with more than 30 restaurants up and down the East Coast, said it is about to open a snazzy replacement restaurant at a new location in Terminal C at Logan International Airport.

Legal’s original Terminal C location occupies 4,000 square feet of space and is located outside the terminal’s secure area. The new, smaller Terminal C site is located inside the secured area so it will offer easier access and convenience for business and leisure travelers awaiting flights, the company said. (Including Terminal C, Legal operates four restaurants at Logan.)

While occupying only 2,600 square feet, the new Terminal C Legal is crammed with upgrades, including a design and layout that seeks to capture the spirit of the menu by evoking imagery of the sea, the company said.

“To create an underwater illusion, there is a ‘bubble ceiling’ with layers of punched thin metal panels where light peeks through,” Legal said.

Barstools are configured so there is space below where patrons can stow some luggage, and flight information will be displayed on digital boards.

The ambiance is the work of designer Eric Brown, a principal of Prellwitz Chilinski Associates in Cambridge.

The bar has 27 seats, and the dining room can accommodate 54 customers, Legal said.

New to the menu are items such as Popcorn Shrimp and the Surf & Turf Burger, which includes lobster meat, guacamole, and arugula.

And for those “wanting a liquid layover” (to quote from the press release), the Legal Sea Foods’ Raising the Bar cocktail menu features such house specialties as Fish House Punch, anejo tequila, and a “trio of Sangria options.”

Plans call for the current Legal at Terminal C to close Tuesday night and for the new location to open Wednesday.
