It looks like the Chick-fil-A cows may be winning the war against hamburger consumption. Chicken is popping up everywhere. I presume this is at least partly about cost of chicken compared to beef. And, of course, chicken is better for your cardiovascular system than red meat. Most fast-food joints now offer chicken sandwiches as an alternative to burgers, as do lots of full-service places.

Examples: There's the new Bantam & Biddy. Gio's Chicken Amalfitano opened last week. And the beef-heavy Roxx is now featuring classic coq au vin ($14.95) Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 5 p.m. On the same days, the restaurant is bringing back its popular Honey Boo Chicken ($11.95), half a chicken roasted, grilled and glazed with a honey-barbecue sauce. It's available all day....

Speaking of Bantam & Biddy, three of us lunched there last week on a $6 special of country fried steak with mashed potatoes. I ordered a side of roasted Brussels sprouts. Super bargain....

And speaking of fried, Wayne and I dined at Dakota Blue a few nights ago and he ordered a gigantic, boneless pork chop coated and fried in panko, topped with pico de gallo and served over mashed potatoes and spinach. Another super bargain at $11.95....

Todd Semrau of Urban Eats Restaurant Consulting Group posted on his blog recently about the imminent explosion of redevelopment around Turner Field, following the opening of Mechanicsville Plaza. The area is attracting attention from restaurant owners:

The area around Turner Field has been in need of an extreme makeover for a long time. The retro-bricked stadium, site of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and home to some amazing Braves baseball, is surrounded by a desolate wasteland of vacant buildings, parking lots and shackled apartment buildings. But that could all change as this diamond in the ruff my soon be the center of an urban resurgence.
