According to a Cambridge University report, the good cholesterol contained in foods like avocados and nuts, could actually increase the probability of heart disease for some people.

Researchers studied people who had a higher amount of high density lipoprotein, which comes from good cholesterol, as a result of a genetic mutation.

Results from blood tests showed their chance of getting heart disease increased by a massive 80 per cent.

Professor Adam Butterworth, who worked on the project, told the BBC, ‘This is one of the first studies to show that some people that have high levels of “good” cholesterol actually have a higher risk of heart disease so it challenges our conventional wisdom about whether “good” cholesterol is protecting people from heart disease or not.’
