According to Isabel Quiroz, Executive Director of iQonsulting in Chile, Peruvian table grape exports will increase by 5% to 8% and amount to 285,000 to 290,000 tons this year. Meanwhile, she said, Chilean table grapes exports will decline.The specialist said that Chile and Peru had exported 720,000 tons and 270,000 tons of table grapes in 2015, respectively.
She also stated that Chile's table grape exports, Peru's nearest economic rival, would amount to 680,000 tons this year, continuing the downward trend after having reached a maximum level of 840,000 tons six years ago.
The director of IQonsulting highlighted that this fruit was already a major agricultural export product and that it had had an explosive growth so far.
"Even though production won't double this year, as it did several years ago, we are now reaching a point of maturity, according to producers and exporters," she said.
