Canadian Food Inspection Agency(CFIA) alert the public not to consume beef steaks produced by Kirkland as they may have been contaminated with E.coli O157:H7.This alert affects all beef steaks including the Strip Loin Grilling Steak sold in variable weight packages at Costco wholesale store located in Alberta. These steaks were sold during the period 4 September through 7 September 2012.
Consumption of food contaminated with E.coli bacteria can lead to diarrhea, dehydration and, in the most severe cases, kidney failure, and it can cause serious illness in very young, elderly, and those with weak immune systems. In some cases people may die.
Several confirmed illnesses have been observed associated with the consumption of the Kirkland brand loin grilling steaks purchased from Costco wholesale store.
The CFIA is working with the manufacturer to have the affected products removed from the marketplace.
