A shipment of beans coming in from Morocco has been found to contain 0.087 mg/kg of the agent Dicofol. The allowable amount is 0.02 mg / kg. That is 4.35 times the maximum admissible quantity for this vegetable, according to the control system RASFF.

The authorities of Slovenia intercepted the shipment on August 14, when it came into the country through the Czech Republic. No further action was taken as the item was already removed from supermarket shelves.

Dicofol is a derivative of DDT. Skin contact with this chemical may cause drowsiness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. It is very toxic to the environment, in particular to fish and sea water.

In Spain, the production of Dicofol has ceased since 2008, at the behest of the regional Ministry of Environment of Aragon. The measure was a result of the Stockholm Convention, which called for the cessation or reduction of the production of persistent organic pollutants because of human health and the environment.
