The US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has confirmed the equivalence of the food safety inspection system for processed poultry in the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

The announcement will allow China to approve the facilities to export processed poultry products to the US. But, raw poultry used to make these products must come from the US or Canada.

Currently, no companies in the PRC are certified to export processed poultry to the US.

The agency said it is examining the country's slaughter inspection system and no chickens slaughtered there could be shipped to the US.

The PRC slaughter inspection system was originally launched in 2006.
