Britannia Industries was started in the year 1892 with a meagre capital and went on become the largest biscuit player in the country and one of the biggest brand. Now , it has diversified its products across the spectrum ranging from the healthy and economical Tiger biscuits to the more lifestyle-oriented Milkman Cheese.
In Feb 2017, the company has signed an non binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chipita, a Greek company, which is present in croissants and similar dough products, savoury snacks (baked rolls), cakes and confectionery
In June 2017, the company has acquired 26% stake in Sundaram Foods Private Ltd., a cake making unit in Assam. The company is also setting up two greenfield projects in Mundra SEZ in Gujarat, integrated food park unit in Maharashtra and Nepal.
In August 2017, the company is planning to invest Rs. 1000 million to re-stage brands like Treat with new variants and advertising with a ₹50-crore investment and then the rest of the creams portfolio for brands like Bourbon and Pure Magic. It also plans to double its distribution outlets
