About the Company :
Gem Sugars Ltd belongs to the Tamil Nadu based Gem group of companies and is engaged in the manufacturing of sugar and co- generation of power. Gem group was started in 1972. The flagship company of the group is Gem Granites. GSL commenced commercial operations from February 2003. The plant is located in Kundargi village, Biligi taluka, Bagalkot district of North Karnataka.
GSL has a total command area of 54,400 acreages for procurement of sugarcane. The installed capacity of the plant is 6,500 Tonnes Crushed per day (TCPD). Capacity utilization was 87.52% in FY16. The installed capacity of bagasse-based co-generation power plant is 24.5 MW. The company has entered into agreement with PTC India Limited to supply power to the Power Company of Karnataka Limited. The power sales of the Company are mostly during the months of November to April. The company is in the process of establishing 60 Kilo litres per day (KLPD) distillery- um-ethanol plant in the existing sugar complex. The total project cost is estimated to be Rs 70 Crores which is funded via borrowings of Rs 56.00 Cr and internal accruals of Rs 14.00 Crores. The project is commissioned by March 2017.
