The initiative to market Premium Qatari vegetables, launched by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has led to sales of locally produced vegetables creeping up to 301 tons in January. Through the programme, the participating farms can market their premium products directly at the participating shopping malls, without the interference of any intermediary.

The programme has seen considerable success and development since its launch in December 2016, the MME said in a statement, as the number of participating farms has increased from 16 back then to 130 at present. The initiative aims to improve the marketing of locally produced vegetables and encourage more investors to invest in the country's agricultural field.

The MME also recently informed that the sales of local vegetables in January, as part of the Qatar Farms programme, amounted to 1,859 tons. This is considered the second initiative of its kind after the Premium Qatari Vegetables programme.
